Gillian Anderson has revealed that she will always be a "punk rocker" at heart.

The X Files star - who is a mother of three children - quipped to Parade that she is far from settling down.

"Even though I can dress up like a soccer mum, the punk rocker will forever be under my skin," Anderson explained. "A manager once told me to smile for the paparazzi. I thought, screw that! Playing along [with the paparazzi] is perpetuating something I don't think should be legal."

Anderson went on to reveal that she would be open to cosmetic surgery if the after-effects were easier to conceal.

"Every once in a while I think there's got to be a way you can have a tiny little nip no-one can see," she said. "But that's probably what everybody thinks - that it's going to be seamless, and it's not. I'm waiting for technology to catch up so you won't be able to tell."

The star recently disclosed that she turned down an offer to play Lady Cora Crawley on Downton Abbey.
