The 36-year-old mother-of-14 said that she only accepted Closer magazine's offer to strip of for pictures out of "desperation" because she was going to be evicted from her house.
Suleman told TMZ: "It was a choice. At first I said no. I've said no to various opportunities over the last few years. I ultimately chose to do it [because] first and foremost, the only human flesh I'm touching is myself [and] I'm covered appropriately.
"[Also], it's for a woman's magazine, not a men's magazine. In my head, it's not hyper-sexualised, it's not exploitative. I'm not ashamed of doing it. I feel as though no woman or man should be ashamed of their body.
"Everyone in their own way is special and beautiful. I think it's something to celebrate if it's appropriately done."
Talking of her impending eviction, Suleman said: "[I did it] out of desperation, absolutely. If I were not in the situation that I'm in and faced with the impediments I'm faced with I would never have even fathomed doing something like this... but sometimes you have to learn to let go."
Suleman also insisted that she would "never regret" turning down a million dollars to star in a pornographic film, adding: "That's not who I am."
