Britney Spears's father has asked the singer's fiancé Jason Trawick to become her co-conservator.

The title would give Trawick joint legal control over Britney's "general well-being", but not her finances. According to People, he would oversee aspects of her life including food, clothing and medical care.

Jamie Spears has served as his daughter's conservator since her psychological breakdown in 2008.

An attorney not involved with the case, Jeffrey S Cohen, said: "This is a very unusual situation, because generally you don't see conservatees get married. This could be a sign that the couple's wedding is around the corner."

Cohen added: "This is probably a compromise between Britney, her father and Trawick to get the marriage off on the right foot. Obviously, her future husband needs to have a say in her well-being."

Britney became engaged to former agent Trawick last year.

The conservatorship has been extended on several occasions since 2008, and will only be lifted after a judge is convinced, on the basis of medical advice, that Britney is capable of managing her own affairs.
