Cheryl Cole to drop last name for career

By
Cheryl Cole has reportedly decided to drop her surname in her professional life.

The singer, whose new single 'Call My Name' will debut later this month, will simply be known as Cheryl when she releases her new material.

"Cheryl is beginning a new chapter in her life so she doesn't want to be associated with negative stuff from the past," a source told The Sun.

"She's not removing Cole legally, it's just a career statement. She's in a really good place at the moment and wants to take life by the balls. She can't wait to start performing live again and her new stage name has given her comeback an extra bit of spice."

Cheryl divorced husband Ashley in 2010 following numerous claims that he had cheated on her, although they were apparently briefly reconciled last summer.

The 'Fight For This Love' star had previously decided to keep her marital name following the couple's initial split after being inspired by Tina Turner. She also felt the most successful period of her career had been under the name Cole.

New song 'Screw You', which is expected to feature on Cole's forthcoming third studio album, is said to be a swipe at Ashley, and includes the lyrics: "I loved you so much but you never gave a f**k so screw you."
