The word on everybody's lips this spring is minimalism. From smooth and simple deconstructed waves to bouncy blow drys and unique up dos where the devil is in the detail. The majority of looks are all about simplicity with a hint of sassiness. The rules are simple, think easy elegance and you can't go wrong! Check out my favourite key styles, and how celebrities achieve these looks…
First up is the 'Smooth Bend', which involves the side-parting which continues to be a staple for this season. Fans of this look include Victoria Beckham, Kate Beckinsale and Eva Longoria.
To recreate this style, simply apply Herbal Essences Dazzling Shine Light Reflecting Serum, £3.99, into clean damp hair for a healthy gleam. Separate the hair into a side parting and starting half way down the crown, working your way down towards the neck, take sections of hair and wind them around large heated rollers.
Leave to dry with some heat from a diffuser and once the hair is dry remove the rollers gently pulling the hair over to one side. Gently tease through with your fingertips to loosen and mould hair into defined waves. Smooth over your roots with the Lockonego Signature Medium Round Brush, £30.00, being careful not to disturb the waves at the end. To ensure hair stays in place spritz all over with Sebastian Professional Shaper Fierce hairspray, £12.75.
Secondly we have 'Prom Perfect'. Recently seen sporting this look at the Oscars were Penelope Cruz, Melissa McCarthy and Milla Jovovich.
To achieve this natural yet formal look, start by applying Sebastian Professional Thickefy Foam, £16.65, from roots to ends into clean damp hair for a bit of volume. Blow dry hair using fingers instead of a brush to encourage natural texture and waves. Once dry, use a wide barrelled curling tong to define curls and add extra waves to the hair. Next, scrape the hair back into a ponytail, leaving a small square section at the centre-front free for styling later.
Begin pinning the curled sections of hair at the nape of the neck into a low bouffant. Then gently fold the free section of hair at the front backwards away from face, over the same barrelled tong to guide the shape and form a slight quiff. Secure with hair pins. Apply a light coating of Sebastian Professional Shaper Zero Gravity spray, £12.75, for lasting hold.
Finally we have the 'Soft Faux Bob'. Scarlett Johansson, Cameron Diaz and Katherine Heigl were all over this style on the red carpet and to achieve this classic day to evening look, volume is the key.
Begin by boosting your colour and shine with Clairol Nice 'n Easy Colour Seal Gloss, 99p, and rinse to reveal vibrant locks. Blow dry using the Lockonego Signature Paddle brush, £30.00, lifting the hair upwards as you do so.
Create a rough side parting and gently use barrelled tongs to create a loose wave to the front and sides of the bob. Finish with a touch of Sebastian Professional Trilliant, £18.25, for a gentle 'halo' gloss.
