The Avengers star confessed that he thought he would be a failure if he hadn't moved to the woods by the age of 25.
"For a long time all I wanted for Christmas were books about outdoor survival," he told Details.
"I was convinced that the woods were calling me," he continued. "I camped a lot, I took classes. At 18, I told myself if I don't live in the woods by myself by the time I'm 25, I have failed."
The actor went on to say that while he loves his career, he is certain he could find happiness elsewhere.
"[M]y happiness in this world, my level of peace, is never going to be dictated by acting," Evans said.
The Avengers opens in cinemas on May 4 in the UK and the US.
