The Australian-born actor - son of entertainers Bert and Patti Newton - has been called to the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building in Miami on May 16, 9 News reports.
Newton was arrested in Miami earlier this month on suspicion of trespass and resisting arrest without violence following an incident at a bar. He may not have to appear at the first hearing, but will have to face the court if the matter goes to trial.
It has been reported that Newton intends to enter a plea of not guilty to the two charges.
Newton is also facing a court case in his native Australia, where he is alleged to have punched a taxi driver during an incident in December 2011.
The Australian case has been adjourned for three months to allow the US proceedings to take place first.
