The Headlong Theatre Company announced that it will include the musical, based on Bret Easton Ellis's 1991 novel of the same name, during its 2012-2013 season.
Enron's Rupert Goold is attached as the director for the musical, while Spring Awakening's Duncan Sheik will be responsible for the music and lyrics with a book by Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark's Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.
In 2000, American Psycho was turned into a feature film, starring Christian Bale as the businessman psychopath Patrick Bateman.
The movie, which became a cult hit, also featured Reese Witherspoon, Big Love's Chloe Sevigny, Justin Theroux and The Firm's Josh Lucas.
No opening date or casting news has been announced for the musical.
