Rosie O'Donnell responds to Lindsay Lohan backlash: "She needs help"

By
Rosie O'Donnell is standing by her comment that Lindsay Lohan is not "capable" of playing Elizabeth Taylor in the TV movie Liz & Dick.

O'Donnell criticised Lohan's casting in the Lifetime biopic during an appearance on Today on Tuesday (April 24).

"I don't think she's right for the role and I don't think she's capable at this point to portray that character," O'Donnell insisted.

Lindsay's father Michael Lohan responded by saying that O'Donnell has no right to comment on his daughter's career.

Michael said: "Is Rosie in ANY position to judge anyone? Failed marriage, two failed shows, slamming other celebs and high-profile people. PLEASE! My daughter and even I, may have had our issues in life, but it's about making things right and turning things around, right Rosie?"

O'Donnell reaffirmed her stance in a series of Twitter posts, including one direct response to Michael.

"[Lindsay] needs help - nobody around her seems to get that - it's tragic what has become of her life - work isn't gonna fix her," she wrote to Michael.

O'Donnell was also deluged with negative responses from Lindsay's fans, prompting her to reply: "I just care about her - she grew up right near me on long island - her mum is my age - I feel sorry 4 LL - that's all."

Lohan has apparently expressed a desire to revive her once thriving acting career, having recently returned to Saturday Night Live for her first hosting gig in six years.

Production on her Lifetime movie Liz & Dick is expected to begin in June in Los Angeles.
