The Clueless actress posted a video on her health blog last month which featured her eating from a bowl of food, then passing the chewed food from her mouth into her 11-month-old son's.
Silverstone was immediately blasted by critics for the practice, with some medical experts pointing out that she may be passing on harmful bacteria to her child.
The 35-year-old decided to address the controversy during an interview on Entertainment Tonight, saying: "I don't regret posting the video... it's a part of the weaning process, so while I'm still breastfeeding, it's just a way to introduce him to food."
Silverstone did express understanding as to why others may have been shocked by the viral video, adding: "It's new to them, but this has been going on for thousands of years and is still going on all over the place. It's natural."
Aside from running her website The Kind Life, Silverstone most recently starred on ABC comedy Suburgatory with former Clueless costar Jeremy Sisto.
