Bobby Brown: 'I thought Whitney Houston was in a good place'

Bobby Brown has said that he thought Whitney Houston was "in a good place" prior to her passing away.

The singer's ex-husband suggested that the circumstance surrounding her death was a one-off incident rather than a consequence of long-term drug use.

Brown was speaking to TODAY, in the first interview he has given since Houston passed away in February.

The 'My Prerogative' singer said that he saw Houston for the last time about a week before she died, and commented: "[She] had this glow about her that was just, you know, incredible. I'm saying to myself, you know, 'She must be... she must be doing really well', because she looked really well."

He added that she "looked like she was in a good place".

When asked what he thought about suggestions that cocaine may have contributed to the death of the 'I Will Always Love You' star, he responded: "I was hurt. I was hurt... because, you know, me being off of narcotics for the last seven years, I felt that she was, you know, I didn't know she was struggling with it still.

"But at the same time, you know, listen, it's a hard fight. It's a hard fight to, you know, maintain sobriety that way."

Brown also said he believes that it was a one-off use of cocaine that killed her, rather than the effects of long-term use, remarking: "It had to be that one, because that's all it takes.

"One hit, you know... it could definitely take your life away from you. And, unfortunately, that was it."
