The comic spent months recovering in a Florida rehab centre, before returning to radio late last year to co-host the talkshow Nick & Artie with friend Nick DiPaolo.

In a new interview, Lange said that he thinks it is the right time to return to The Howard Stern Show for at least a guest appearance.

"I think I'm at the place where I can do it," Lange said, reports Philly.com.

He added: "It would be a heavy thing [to discuss]."

Howard Stern admitted last year that he's reluctant to interview Lange out of fear for the comedian's mental health.

"You never know with Artie," Stern complained. "Artie appeared to me to be doing well when he was on heroin... I've been bamboozled like 50 million times by Artie."

Lange has credited his 2010 stay in intensive rehab with saving his life.
