John Lennon's killer Mark David Chapman has been transferred from the prison where he's spent the last 30 years.

Chapman was moved from Attica Correctional Facility to another maximum security jail in Buffalo, NY in recent weeks, reports Buffalo News.

Prison officials declined to reveal why Chapman had been transferred after serving so many years at Attica.

The 57-year-old shot Lennon dead outside the singer's Dakota apartment building in New York City on December 8, 1980.

Chapman has been denied parole six times since murdering Lennon, most recently in September 2010.

He revealed in that 2010 parole hearing that he shot Lennon out of a desire to "become somebody".

Lennon was 40 years old at the time of his death.
