Beverley Callard is facing bankruptcy, it has been reported.

The former Coronation Street actress has allegedly been served with a £60,000 tax bill. A bankruptcy order was issued under her married name of Beverley McEwan earlier this month, and she may be forced to sell her home in Manchester in order to pay the charges.

Callard left the ITV1 soap as Rovers landlord Liz McDonald last year after first appearing in 1989.

"She's no option but to go bankrupt if the tax office refuse to budge," a source told The Sun.

Callard has been unable to work in other projects for several months due to ill health, including pulling out of a panto in Sheffield.

However, the actress has now signed up for BBC drama With the Flynns, before touring the comedy drama Little Voice.

The insider added: "It will take a while for her to get back on her feet financially and catch up from where she was."

Callard has had other money troubles in the past, including a £26,000 tax bill with ex-husband Steve Callard in 2000, followed by her pub business hitting debts of £218,000 in 2008.

A spokesperson for the actress has not made comment.
