Cyclist Victoria Pendleton is a rare exception. Already at the very top of the game, she's the perfect choice for this classy Britannia photoshoot.
"With patriotism at an all time high and so much for Brits to be proud of ahead of the Diamond Jubilee and Olympics, it's a great year to be British," Pendleton said.
"Which is why I'm working with Hovis to celebrate their use of 100% British wheat in each and every loaf by recreating the female personification of the British Isles, Britannia - a powerful symbol of unity, tying us Brits together as a nation."
Victoria Pendleton is the Hovis Ambassador and supports Hovis's use of 100% British wheat in all its loaves
A survey of 2,000 people from Hovis found that 45% of Britons think that our unique sense of humour is the national trait we're most proud of, beating talking about the weather on 41%.
Next was our stiff-upper-lip attitude on 40%, a passion for queuing on 30% and politeness rounding out the top five with 25%.
Hovis brand manager Ansareen Shaban said: "What this survey demonstrates really well is how proud we are to be British - more three quarters said they felt honoured to be part of this country.
"It is great to see that as a nation we are proud of our British heritage and have some of the most iconic symbols to celebrate."
