Whitney Houston's mother Cissy Houston is to publish a memoir revealing the 'brightest and darkest moments' of her daughter's life.

Publishers HarperCollins announced that the book, scheduled for publication in February 2013, will help 'fans around the world understand the complexities of this extraordinary star who died much too soon'.

Cissy has never spoken publicly about her daughter, but is said to be determined to set the record straight about the circumstances surrounding the star's tragic death in February.

In a statement, she explained how by finally speaking up, she hoped to provide a deeper understanding of her daughter's life.

"When I lost my daughter Nippy, the world lost one of the most beautiful voices and an extraordinarily beautiful and charitable woman," Cissy said.

"In sharing our story in this book, I hope to give her fans something to treasure, the way we all treasured Whitney."

A percentage of the proceeds from the book will go to the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey where Whitney sang in the choir as a child and where her funeral was held.

Whitney Houston's final film performance, in the remake of musical Sparkle, will be released on August 17.
