The actor earned Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for the role of salesman Ricky Roma in the film version of Glengarry Glen Ross, but he will reportedly take a new role in this latest staging.
A source has told The New York Times that Pacino is being lined up to play struggling salesman Shelly 'The Machine' Levene, who Jack Lemmon played in the 1992 movie.
Jeffrey Richards, producer of the Broadway revival, chose not to comment on the casting report.
Pacino has won two Tony Awards for his stage work in the past for Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie? and The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel.
He last starred on Broadway in The Merchant of Venice in 2011.
