Actor Neil Patrick Harris has revealed that he is gay - despite his publicist's recent denials.
Best known for playing the eponymous teenage doctor in medical drama Doogie Howser, M.D., the 33-year-old told People magazine's website: "I am happy to dispel any rumours or misconceptions and am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest."
Only last week Harris' publicist had issued a statement denying the actor's homosexuality by claiming he "is not of that persuasion". This followed recent speculation over his private life.
Following the end of Doogie Howser, M.D. in 1993 following four seasons, Harris landed supporting roles in films including Starship Troopers and The Next Best Thing. He is currently starring in CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother.
