The singer blasted Mitt Romney, who is Mormon and currently campaigning for the United States presidency against Barack Obama.
In a tweet sent on Friday (June 29), the staunch Democrat urged President Obama to strengthen their strategy for beating Romney in November.
She wrote: "I Feel if he [Obama] doesn't get all his DUCKS IN A ROW we'll b forced 2 listen 2Uncaring Richy Rich! The whitest man in MAGIC UNDERWEAR in the WH [White House]."
According to WENN, the star's comments have annoyed leaders of the Mormon church, who wear formal garments called "celestial underwear".
The church claimed that the phrase "magic underwear" is derogatory and offensive, adding: "I guess she is another example of a celebrity who surrounds themselves with people who always tell them what they want to hear so that they don't have to think before they speak or tweet in this case."
Cher, who met with President Obama earlier in the year, has yet to respond directly to the Mormon church.
