Holmes was keen to work with her former co-stars Michelle Williams, James Van Der Beek and Joshua Jackson on a Dawson's Creek movie, Us Weekly claims.
However, rumours have now suggested that Cruise was unhappy about the idea.
"[Producers] were begging her to sign on for a reunion movie," a source alleged. "Tom said absolutely no way and thought going backward would be bad."
The insider added: "[Holmes] didn't care how 'low-brow' he thinks Dawson's Creek is. She wanted to do the movie and reconnect with her fans."
Williams recently said that she would be "totally up" for a Dawson's Creek reunion, while Van Der Beek has said he'd be open to it if someone came up with a "brilliant idea".
Holmes filed for divorce from Cruise after five years of marriage last week and is reportedly seeking sole custody of their 6-year-old daughter Suri.
A number of reports about the couple's relationship have emerged since news of the divorce, including claims that Holmes will lose millions of dollars because of her prenuptial agreement with Cruise.
Other rumours have suggested that Cruise is planning to file divorce papers in California to give himself a better chance of getting custody of Suri and that Holmes is feeling like she has been "set free" since the split.
Elsewhere, the Church of Scientology was forced to deny rumours that it had been tailing Holmes since she filed divorce papers against Cruise.
