McCartney must demolish lodge on estate
Published Friday, Nov 10 2006, 10:37 GMT | By Dave West
Sir Paul McCartney has agreed to demolish a lodge he had built in his country estate.
The former Beatle erected the wooden building on his estate in East Sussex without planning permission.
He had offered to knock down a detached house and two barns in return for being able to keep the secluded lodge and a lake-side hut, but Rother District Council rejected the plan.
Now Sir Paul has accepted he will have to destroy the lodge at Woodlands Farm, in Peasmarsh, East Sussex. He will ask for retrospective planning permission to keep the pavilion by the lake, however.
The matter is due to be decided at the next meeting of Rother District's planning committee on December 7.
