Naomi Campbell is seeking a deal to carry out community service over charges she threw a phone at a member of her staff.

The supermodel appeared in court on Wednesday accused of throwing a mobile phone at her maid. Her lawyers sought to reach an agreement on a punishment.

Former employee Ana Scolavino claims Campbell hit her in the back of the head with the object while in her apartment in Manhattan, leaving her in need of medical treatment.

David Breitbart, Campbell's lawyer, said the model was hoping for an agreement that she would only have to carry out community service. However, he added that she did not want to end up being followed by reporters as Boy George was when he had to sweep streets earlier this year.

Campbell, who could face up to seven years prison if convicted of assault, appeared at the New York court in a dark grey dress and black suede high-heels.

Shanda Strain, Assistant District Attorney at the court, told The Sun: "We're still in the process of working out a possible disposition."
