"Words cannot express the horror that I feel. I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them," he told TMZ.

Director Christopher Nolan previously called suspect James Holmes's actions "savage" and "senseless".

Bale and co-star Anne Hathaway left Paris yesterday after the premiere for the film there was cancelled.

Warner Bros has also cancelled scheduled appearances for the cast in Mexico and Japan.

Meanwhile, President Barack Obama said that he and wife Michelle were "shocked and saddened by the horrific" tragedy, adding that "such violence, such evil is senseless".
