Singer Swift won five trophies, including 'Choice Female Artist', 'Choice Country Song' and 'Choice Movie Voice' for her work in The Lorax. She thanked the cast and crew of the animated film, as well as that of The Hunger Games, for which she recorded two songs.

One Direction earned three awards: 'Choice Summer Music Star Group', 'Choice Music Breakout Group' and 'Choice Love Song'. They filmed a video in the UK thanking their fans, but were not able to accept the prizes as they are currently busy recording new material.

Justin Bieber also earned a number of accolades, taking home four prizes: 'Choice Male Artist', 'Choice Male Music Star of the Summer', 'Choice Male Fashion Icon' and 'Choice Single by a Male Artist'.

The Twilight Saga was also honoured with a variety of awards, most notably the 'Ultimate Choice' prize. Stars Taylor Lautner, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson were on hand to accept their respective surfboards for the award, but ended up throwing the trophies into the audience.

Meanwhile, The Vampire Diaries also won five awards, including 'Choice TV Show: Sci-Fi/Fantasy', 'Choice TV Actress' and 'Choice TV Actor' for Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder.

Somerhalder was also named 'Choice Male Hottie', while Miley Cyrus took home 'Choice Female Hottie'. She was not on hand to accept the award, so the Vampire Diaries star thanked fans on her behalf.

Demi Lovato and Glee's Kevin McHale hosted the awards show, which aired live from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.
