The royal couple were joined by Prince Harry, all three of whom are ambassadors for Team GB, and watched animatedly as their three hand-picked torch bearers from their charities passed the flames on the grounds of the palace.

The 30-year-old Duchess, who wore the official Team GB top with a pair of royal blue skinny jeans and matching blue wedges, selected Scout volunteer Jon Sayer, while William chose mountain rescuer John Hulse and Harry, Wai-Ming Lee from charity MapAction.

The young Royals, who also launched a new sports project for disadvantaged teenagers in south east London yesterday, were the last to greet the flame, following torch bearing earlier in the day by David Walliams, Bruce Forsythe and Ab Fab stars Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders.
