Later reports suggested that Stewart and Pattinson had both decided to move out of their shared Los Angeles home and are living apart.
People has now claimed that the couple are not on speaking terms following news of Stewart's infidelity, despite the fact that they are due to appear together at MTV's Video Music Awards in early September.
Rumours have also suggested that the relationship between Stewart and Sanders had been going on for months and that Pattinson had been preparing to propose to his Twilight co-star.
Elsewhere, reports have claimed that Sanders's wife Liberty Ross has forgiven him for the fling, with a source allegedly saying: "She accepts that it was just one of those silly flirtations."
