Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard have spoken about working together on an upcoming movie, joking that they are "codependent".

The couple, who got engaged in February 2010, previously appeared in When in Rome and will now be co-stars in the film Hit and Run.

The movie, which Shepard wrote and co-directed, focuses on a getaway driver who puts his witness protection status at risk to drive his girlfriend to Los Angeles so that she can get her dream job.

Shepard told Us Weekly that the project was a "nice opportunity to spend time together", while Bell joked: "We realised we're severely codependent."

She also quipped: "On this project, I was sleeping with the director, the writer and the lead actor, so I spread myself real thin."

However, Bell explained that both she and Shepard "had the same goal" with the movie and "really, really, really wanted the best for the script Dax had written".

She also praised Shepard's skills as a director, saying: "I know that he knows how to talk to me and how to get what he wants out of a lot of actors. I've seen him directing before and it's a very easy process because he's a really good communicator. I trust his creative perspective, so it was easy to work for him because my ego wasn't involved."

Bell and Shepard, who have vowed not to wed until gay marriage is legal in the US, recently suggested that they don't like living next door to Justin Bieber.
