Rod Stewart has revealed his daughter Kimberly is battling with long-term liver disease caused by drink.

The rock star said the 27-year-old socialite has been forced to give up alcohol completely but was now apparently recovering from the problem.

“She just discovered that she had a very serious liver illness from drinking too much,” he explained in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine. “So she hasn’t had a drink or cigarette in three months and she feels great.

"She said to me, ‘Dad, I’m half Scottish – I thought I was allowed to drink a lot’. I said, ‘No, darling, it doesn’t work like that’.”

Kimberly is well known for her partying and for associating with celebrities including Calum Best, Leah Wood - daughter of Rolling Stone Ronnie - and Jack Osbourne.

Rod's son Sean, aged 26, has also had a drink and drug problem since his teens.
