London 2012 Bradley Wiggins: 'I'm happy looking like Rodney Trotter'

By
London 2012 gold medallist Bradley Wiggins has said that he is okay with having a body like Only Fools and Horses character Rodney Trotter.

The Tour de France winner and Team GB cyclist said that athletes with a similar physique to Nicholas Lyndhurst are more suited to his sport than those "blessed with incredible bodies".

"The one thing with an endurance sport, you know, we aren't blessed with incredible bodies because we have to be very skinny, we have to look very lean," he explained to Absolute Radio.

"We just look like Rodney Trotter. We don't look at all athletic."

Wiggins has been credited for an increased number of cyclists taking to the Surrey roads where he won his gold, which caused police to issue a warning to motorists in the area.

The Olympian called for more laws to protect cyclists on London's roads after a 28-year-old man was killed on his bike by a Games media bus.

It has been revealed that the London 2012 opening ceremony was the second most-watched UK TV broadcast in history with 24.24m viewers, bested only by a 1996 episode of Only Fools and Horses.
