The 38-year-old actress, whose latest picture is Total Recall directed by her husband Len Wiseman, admitted that she always feels drained after shooting a film.
She told OK: "It's so immersive for a director doing a movie like this and I really feel like I've got so much more insight into that that I ever would have had before.
"We're sprinters, actors are. We come in and then we do the sprint and then we go, 'Oh my God, I'm so tired, I must go on holiday immediately, I'm exhausted, maybe I will go to rehab'.
"And Len has been doing it for two years, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It's extremely impressive and kind of humbling."
Beckinsale has a teenage daughter, Lily, with ex-partner Michael Sheen, and explained that the teenager enjoyed visiting her on the set of Total Recall - mainly because of her co-star Colin Farrell.
She said: "This one she really enjoyed because Colin was coming down his trailer stairs in just a pair of pyjamas covered in tattoos and holding his baby.
"I mean, what 13-year-old doesn't want to see that? An extremely titillating image. But everybody was really cool with her."
