David Blaine completes gyroscope stunt
Published Friday, Nov 24 2006, 11:19 GMT | By Matthew Houghton
American illusionist David Blaine has completed his latest stunt by escaping from a giant gyroscope suspended above the streets of New York.
After spending two days spinning in the contraption, Blaine freed himself from shackles around his waist and feet .
He then fell 12 metres through a wooden stage below before limping his way into a New York taxi.
The stunt was performed in order to raise money for The Salvation Army, a charity that is dear to Blaine because, according to the BBC, they provided him with clothes when he was younger.
The illusionist will now lead 100 underprivileged children chosen by The Salvation Army on a shopping spree.
