The general public have been invited to attend a public memorial at the Temple Emanu-El in New York City on Tuesday (August 14), the Hamlisch family has announced.
There will also be public viewings on Sunday and Monday at the Frank E Campbell funeral home.
Hamlisch passed away at the age of 68 last week after a short illness.
Barbra Streisand paid tribute to her long-time collaborator by reflecting on her memories of the composer.
"The world will remember Marvin for his brilliant musical accomplishments, from A Chorus Line to The Way We Were, and so many others, but when I think of him now, it was his brilliantly quick mind, his generosity, and delicious sense of humour that made him a delight to be around," Streisand wrote.
Hamlisch was one of only 11 people to have won an Oscar, an Emmy, a Tony and a Grammy Award. He also earned a Pulitzer Prize.
