There have been rumours this week that the Hollywood couple were due to tie the knot at their country estate in Correns in the south of France today (August 11) - the same day as Pitt's parents' golden wedding anniversary.
Rumours that the couple would marry on this date started not long after the announcement of their engagement in April, while Brad Pitt's best friend George Clooney was reported to have flown over to attend.
However, Yahoo! reports that French law would make a ceremony at the couple's chateau Miraval impossible.
Patrick Mareschi, the deputy of culture secretary of Correns, has stated that "under French law, couples have to get married at the town hall.
"Unlike with a religious wedding, there's no way a couple can hold a civil ceremony at their own home."
Photo agency X17 seem to have confirmed that the rumoured ceremony is not happening in Correns if at all, after leaving a message on their website saying: "We sent an X17 photographer all the way down to the south of France - it's pretty much in the middle of nowhere - to check out Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's chateau Miraval to see just what's going on and... drumroll, please... there's NOTHING going on!"
