Johnson - previously known as Chad Ochocinco - was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence on Saturday (August 11) after an alleged altercation with his wife Evelyn Lozada, who is on the VH1 reality series Basketball Wives.
The Miami Dolphins dropped Johnson from the team 24 hours after his arrest, reports The AP.
Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said on Sunday (August 12): "We're going to deal with this. We're not going to waste time... We're all in this thing together. Everybody that sets foot in this building, we're all held to a high standard."
The Dolphins had a practice on Sunday which Johnson missed because he was getting out of jail. He spent a night in custody, but was released on $2,500 (£1,595) bond on Sunday.
The NFL star is alleged to have "head-butted" Lozada during their row, which started when Lozada found a store receipt for condoms in her husband's car. Lozada reportedly sought treatment at a local hospital for lacerations on her forehead.
Johnson and Lozada tied the knot in Miami on July.
