Ricky Gervais has been invited to appear on Bob Dylan's radio show in the US.

The comedian will visit the music legend for his Theme Time Radio programme next month, after receiving a personal invitation.

Gervais' shock and delight was summed up in the message posted on his website, which simply read: "An invitation from Bob Dylan. Yes, Bob Dylan."

The website added the details: "Bob Dylan has asked Ricky to do his radio show in America. Ricky will pre-record their chat when he visits New York later in the year ready for broadcast early in 2007."
