'Hunger Games' beats 'Harry Potter' as best-selling Amazon series

By
The Hunger Games trilogy has overtaken the Harry Potter novels as the best-selling book series on Amazon.com.

CNN reports that the announcement was made by the Amazon company on Friday with an official statement from editorial director of books Sara Nelson.

'The Hunger Games' arrives on Blu-ray, DVD and digital download on September 3.

"Since debuting in 2008, Katniss Everdeen and the Hunger Games have taken the world by storm, much as Harry Potter did a decade before," Nelson explained.

"Interestingly, this series is only three books versus Harry Potter's seven, and to achieve this result in just four years is a great testament to both the popularity of the work and, we think, the growth in reading digitally during that time."

The trilogy, written by Suzanne Collins, consists of The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay.

A follow-up to the highly successful screen adaptation of The Hunger Games is currently in production and will feature new cast members including Philip Seymour Hoffman and Jena Malone.
