Margulies expressed to Deadline: "I was so deeply saddened to hear the news today of Tony Scott's death. I have had the pleasure of working with him for the past four years on The Good Wife and I couldn't have asked for a more wonderful producer.

"His kindness, intelligence and talent inspired all of us. We will miss him every day. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family."

Margulies plays the lead character Alicia Florrick on the CBS drama, on which Scott served as an executive producer along with his brother Ridley Scott.

David Krumholtz, who starred in the Scotts' TV series Numb3rs, took to his Twitter account to recount his time working with the fimmaker.

Krumholtz said: "He was wild and big and crazy and uncontrollable and he gave it his all, every moment, because he believed in his crew, his cast, and the show. It saddens me that something inside him told him to take his incredible life spirit away from us, from the film making community."

Many other stars - including fellow directors Ron Howard, Robert Rodriguez and Marc Webb - have also paid tribute to Scott.

Scott directed such films as Top Gun, Enemy of the State, Man on Fire and Unstoppable.
