Madonna thanks Geldof for inspiration

Madonna has sent Sir Bob Geldof a thank-you letter for inspiring her to adopt a child from Africa.

According to The Sun the pop legend told friends that she would never have visited Malawi had it not been for Geldof.

As a sign of her gratitude Madonna reportedly made a large donation to Geldof's Band Aid charity for Africa.

A source told the newspaper, "She (Madonna) feels that she is forever in Sir Bob's debt for having introduced her to the country where she eventually met her beloved son. She is extremely grateful to him for bringing David into her life and feels she owes him a lot."

Madonna has also apparently promised to help Sir Geldof with his charity work if ever he needs it.
