Universal Pictures is developing a new version of Scarface based on elements of Howard Hughes's 1932 movie and Brian De Palma's 1983 drama starring Al Pacino. However, it is not intended to be a straight remake of either.

"Rihanna loves Scarface. Some of her music videos have been based on Michelle [Pfeiffer]'s character, Elvira," a source told The Sun. "She knows all the words and even has her walk perfected."
The singer made her movie acting debut earlier this year in Battleship, playing weapons specialist Cora Raikes.
Both Scarface movies chart the rise and fall of an immigrant who becomes a major crime lord in the underworld, and then topples from power because of his weaknesses.
David Ayer (Training Day) is drafting the script for the new project from Armitage Trail's original 1929 novel.
