The 'Overjoyed' singer told The Guardian that he has been discouraged not just by the Aurora mass shooting, but also by frequent gun crime in American inner-cities.
"I'm concerned about how accessible guns are," Wonder explained, continuing: "That [Colorado shooting] was also very sad, but this is an occurrence almost every week in various cities. But no politician wants to confront it."
He added: "The right to bear arms? What about the right to live?"
Wonder went on to reveal that he's feared gun violence in his own life from time to time.
"I've had threats," he disclosed. "I don't put that energy out there because that's just craziness."
There has been a rash of high-profile shootings across the US in the past few weeks. An apparent white supremacist killed six and wounded four at a Wisconsin Sikh temple on August 5.
On August 24, a man shot and killed his former co-worker outside the Empire State Building in New York City. A firefight with police wounded nine bystanders.
