The cage fighter was taken into custody on suspicion of causing criminal damage and using violence to secure entry at the couple's residence in Essex.
"Police were contacted just before 1.30am this morning with reports of a disturbance at a property in Spital Lane, Brentwood," a police spokesperson told the Mail Online.
"A 37-year-old man from Brentwood was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and using violence to secure entry, and is currently in police custody."
The incident follows a number of public admissions by both Houghton and Reid about the troubled state of their relationship.
Houghton was spotted without her engagement ring at the weekend after confirming that she is having "time apart" from the ex-husband of Katie Price.
Reid, meanwhile, admitted in an interview published yesterday (September 4) that he has considered splitting with Houghton amid fights over his "sexual preferences" and allegations by his ex-manager that he sent lewd texts.
"I'm from a strong family unit and I want that for us more than anything else in the world," he said. "But if we are killing each other, I don't want that.
"You know, if we want to kill each other, any couple wants to kill each other from time to time, that's quite normal."
Reid insisted in the same Q&A that he and Houghton still intend on getting married in the future.
The couple became parents to a daughter named Dolly back in June.
