Wesley Snipes posted $1 million in bail on Saturday to secure his freedom until his forthcoming trial on several tax evasion charges.
"I look forward to clearing my name and resolving this issue post-haste," said Snipes after attending a federal courthouse in Florida. The actor had flown into the country on a private jet from Namibia, where he has been making a new movie on location.
Reports had been circulating in the media that Snipes had earlier gone to Namibia to avoid the charges, but his attorney Billy Martin explained the situation: "Mr. Snipes left America to begin filming Gallowwalker long before this indictment was returned. We want to make it clear that he did not avoid returning to the United States. He's always been ready to return and he did not flee."
