The images were first published by French Closer last week and have since been printed in Italian publication Chi and the Irish Daily Star.

Last week St James's Palace confirmed plans to take legal action against French Closer and is today seeking damages and an injunction in a French civil court.

A Palace spokesperson also added this week: "We can confirm that a criminal complaint is to be made to the French Prosecution Department.

"It concerns the taking of photographs of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge whilst on holiday and the publication of those photographs in breach of their privacy."

No name was listed in the criminal complaint as the identity of the photographer is not known to the royals.
