Ciarán Hinds will play the role of Big Daddy, while Benjamin Walker will portray Brick and Tony Award winner Debra Monk will be Big Mama, reports Deadline.

Rob Ashford will direct the new production, with preview performances kicking off on Tuesday, December 18 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on West 46th Street.

It will then open on January 17, 2013 with Stuart Thompson directing.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is set at the plantation home of wealthy cotton tycoon Big Daddy Pollitt in Mississippi. The play follows the relationships within Big Daddy's family, in particular that of his son Brick and his wife Maggie the 'Cat'.

The 1955 Pulitzer-winning play was adapted into a movie in 1958 starring Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman, before it was revived in 1974.

Scarlett Johansson previously won a Tony Award for her role in Arthur Miller's A View from the Bridge.
