The singer and actress explained that she believes beauty comes only with knowing your body, and urged people to make sure that they can see themselves in full at home and exfoliate every day.
Midler told the October/November 2012 issue of AARP The Magazine: "You should be very careful about who does your mani-pedi, because you can really screw your toes up.
"You should stop beating your hair into submission, even if you don't like it. Everyone should exfoliate, every day, even guys."
Midler - who is known for movies such as Beaches and The First Wives Club - continued by asserting that too much drinking can be damaging to a person's image.

"More than two drinks a day will ruin your skin," she argued. "And if you don't have a full-length mirror, you're going to get fat. Period."
However, the 66-year-old star admitted she is far less selfish nowadays, thinking about other people more than she used to.
Midler explained: "You've got to figure, 'Well, there are seven billion other people in this world, it doesn't all have to be about me!' It took me about 66 years to come to this conclusion."
