First up, hormonal teenagers across the land will be rejoicing, following news that for the first time since the band's success, One Direction's Liam Payne is now single and ready to mingle. It appears that 'long term' (huh... they're barely out of their teens!) dancer girlfriend Danielle Peazer and Liam were the latest casualty of a long-distance relationship, citing the busy popstar's work commitments and travels as the main issue. Online abuse from the loyal 1D fans has also been mooted as a possible reason for the spilt.
Oh well, at least band mate Harry Styles will have a fellow bachelor buddy to enjoy his new home. Reported to have paid a cool £3 million, Hazza has spent some of his hard earned dosh on a swanky new pad in London's Primrose Hill. With chums such as Nick Grimshaw, Pixie Geldof and Caroline Flack down the road, I'm sure there will be some serious house warming parties in the pipeline.
The land of soap was out in force at the beginning of the week for the annual Inside Soap Awards. EastEnders' recent teen cast-centred storylines seem to have paid off, with the majority of its young cast walking away with a gong. Newcomer David Witts (Joey Branning) swanned off with his - I'm sure first of many - 'Sexiest Male' award, on-screen girlfriend Hetti Bywater (Lucy Beale) won 'Best Newcomer', and Ricky Norwood and Tameka Empson (Fatboy and Kim Fox) both walked away with 'Funniest Male' and 'Female' accolades.
Corrie, Hollyoaks and Neighbours also picked up a smattering of awards between them, but alas, Emmerdale was left out in the cold, scoring zilch trophies for their Green Room cabinet. With the upcoming live 40th anniversary on the horizon, their chance to shine is yet to come perhaps... let's just hope the atrocious weather clears up and gives the cast and crew a fighting chance!
Speaking of soaps, have you ever wondered what happens to our beloved soap stars when the dreaded 'axe' falls upon their characters? Well, I can reveal to you now, here on Digital Spy, they end up in Soap Opera The Play.
This touring production boasts a who's who of soap past royalty. Leslie Grantham (EastEnders, Dirty Den), Michelle Gayle (EastEnders, Hattie), Lee Otway (Hollyoaks, Bombhead), Louis Emerick (Brookside, Mick), Graham Cole (The Bill, PC Stamp), Hattie Hayridge (Red Dwarf), and comic Kev Orkian embark on a camp, hysterical quest to save their jobs, rescue their ailing TV soap (er, bit close to home for some of them) and get rid of their incorrigible executive producer, Holly.
Think of a TV version of Cluedo... and with a gay Leslie Grantham. The sight of Dirty Den mincing about with hand on hip in a horrendously clichéd interpretation really does have to be seen to be believed. The stand out star of the play is Kev Orkian, one of the most gifted and talented comic actors this country has - think Nathan Lane but way more amusing and current. With Hollywood beckoning already for Mr Orkian, you better see him now while you still can.
X Factor Boot Camp - with a contestant called 'Collagen' (who'd clearly taken inspiration from her doppelgänger), Rylan Clark stapling what appeared to be two of Cher's old wigs to his shoulder pads, self-inflated ego Gathan declaring, 'I AM going through to Judges' Houses', only to then... er... not, Tulisa and Nicole Scherzinger's stylist clearly having an outfit-off and dressing both ladies in matchy matchy red ensembles, sob story single dad Joseph Wheelan graduating from the Peter Andre school of 'I'm doing it for my son', Tulisa's depressed/I'm bored monotone voice at ALL the audition rounds, and Nick the Floor Manager getting more screen time with his '321 cue' than anyone!
And note to Jon Snow's stylist on Drugs Live on Channel 4 - making the presenter wear a psychedelic rainbow tie on the ecstasy drug trials night was just plain cruel to those testing the hallucinogenic party pill. No wonder Keith Allen was confused!
