Rosie O'Donnell has opened up about suffering a heart attack.

The comedian had a stent placed in her heart in August after discovering that her coronary artery was "90% blocked".

O'Donnell later wrote an open letter to fans, where she admitted that she feels "lucky to be here" because she suffered a type of heart attacked referred to as "the Widow maker".

In an new interview with People, O'Donnell described the moment she was told by a cardiologist that she'd suffered a heart attack.

"I started crying… I almost died – and that's not an over-exaggeration. That's a fact," she recalled.

O'Donnell went on to say that the health scare inspired her to diet and rededicate herself to her family.

"It took a heart attack for me to learn to take care of myself," she said. "I've been given a second chance… I'm getting an extra lap now. Make it worth something, kid."

The comic's illness appeared to bring an end to her public feud with Donald Trump, who wished O'Donnell well in a Twitter post.
