Brown's widow evicted from home

Published Thursday, Dec 28 2006, 04:46 GMT | By David Cribb
James Brown's widow was refused entry into her home following the singer's death.

Tomi Rae Hynie was told by lawyer's that she and Brown were never legally married, and she consequently has no rights to their shared property or possessions.

The couple tied the knot in 2001, but Hynie was already legally married. However, she claims her marriage to her first husband had been annulled at the time. "(My first husband) was from Pakistan. He wanted to enter the U.S. I was young and desperate," she recalls.

However, the soul legend's lawyers now disagree, with lawyer Buddy Dallas insisting: "It's not a reflection on her as an individual. I have not even been in the house nor will I until appropriate protocol is followed. I suppose it would mean she was, from time to time, a guest in Mr. Brown's home."

The locks on the couple's shared home were changed just hours after the singer passed away on Christmas Eve.
