Michael Winner ill with mystery disease?
The film director initially thought the problem, which left him with huge blisters on his left leg, was caused by a reaction to antibiotics. He was treated while away but has apparently deteriorated since returning to the UK last week.
The Daily Mail has reported that doctors may have to amputate his leg in an effort to save his life.
When he first became ill, he told family: "I had a dreadful reaction to the antibiotic and came out in enormous blood blisters on my left leg. They covered the entire inside of it and each was five inches long. Then they all burst and I was rushed to hospital, sirens blaring."
He came back to Britain and is now in the private London Clinic in Harley Street where family are said to be at his side. Rose Bryan, his PA, commented: "He is not very well. Very ill, in fact."
