Natasha Bedingfield has revealed that her record label tried to change her image and personality for the American market.
The singer was not comfortable with the changes the company wanted to enforce, and insisted that she would be able to succeed on musical merit alone. It was believed Bedingfield would need to attract some controversy in order for her to make it in the USA.
"They thought I needed a bit more scandal!" she told Cosmopolitan magazine. "I said, 'Right, you want me to have worked this hard to sleep with the president or shoplift just to get a headline?' I was like, 'Do you want me to be diva and throw my mobile phone at you so you can run a story?'"
"I don't want to be a horrible person," she concluded. "It's not me."
